To test the battery capacity, turn the control panel power on and turn on some lights until you have about 5A shown on the ammeter, and start a stopwatch or note the start time. Allow the battery to discharge until the voltage reaches 10V where the control panel will emit a warning and switch the power off, then note the elapsed time. Calculate the actual power delivered by multiplying the discharge rate by the hours elapsed. If you get a low reading, repeat the test to see if you get the same result. Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I charge the vehicle battery from my system?
Our electronic PSU systems fall into two categories regarding vehicle battery charging: systems not based on CAN-bus and newer CAN-bus based systems. For Manual Charging only systems (PSU2007 with EC200, EC225 with EC100, EC325, EC328, EC155 with EC50/51, EC176 with EC361/2/3): The default battery is the leisure battery. If the control panel power button is OFF, the mains charger charges the leisure battery as soon as it is switched on. If you turn the control panel ON, the mains charger stays connected to the leisure battery to keep it charged and powers the leisure loads along with the leisure battery. If you wish to charge the vehicle battery from the mains charger, you need to turn the control panel ON and then select the vehicle battery. The charger will then charge the vehicle battery and any switched-on leisure loads. Note: On EC100, EC200, EC325, and EC50/51 control panels, you cannot select the vehicle battery if it is below 10.9V. On EC328 control panels (V2.21 software), if the vehicle battery is above 2V and the mains charger is switched on, it can be selected for charge. If the mains supply disconnects while charging the vehicle battery, leisure loads will draw current from and discharge the vehicle battery. If the voltage is under the 10.9V cut-off, it switches back to the leisure battery; if above, it switches back when it reaches 10.9V. The leisure battery has a 9V cut-off which disconnects leisure loads to prevent further discharge. For CAN-bus based systems (EC400, EC450, EC500, EC600, EC700, & EC800): These incorporate a smart charge feature which is on by default but can be disabled. When the mains charger is switched on, it connects by default to the leisure battery, but the vehicle battery is monitored. If the vehicle battery drops below 12.4V, the mains charger switches over to it for 4 hours, then drops back to the leisure battery for 4 hours, repeating if the vehicle battery is still below 12.4V. The smart charge feature does not require the control panel to be ON; as long as the system shutdown button is switched on, the feature operates unless disabled. If the control panel is ON, you can manually select the battery of choice on the control panel at any point in the charge cycle.
Q: How does the AC Current Limiter work?
The AC Current Limiter works by measuring the current in Amps being drawn from the site supply or hook up. If this exceeds a set limit, the system will reduce the power being used by the heating system or water boiler until the demand falls back below the set limit. For example, if the limit is set at 13A and the hot water is working on 2kW (about 8.7A) and you boil a 1.7kW kettle (about 7.4A), this gives a total of 16.1A, so the system will reduce the hot water setting to 1kW bringing the total current down to 11.75A (4.35A + 7.4A). Note that the system can only control the power being used by the heating system or water boiler; it cannot control the microwave, hob, or 230V socket outlets.
Q: How do I test the AC Limiter?
Firstly, you need to ensure the heating system is setup to be controlled by the EC600 system so that the heating can be turned down automatically if required. At the EC620 control panel, scroll to the AC Limiter screen. The centre of the display will show the live current in Amps being used by your vehicle. With the heating on and set to 2kW, the display should show 8.7A (and if the battery charger is switched on, this may be 3A higher). Set the AC Limiter to a value an amp or so higher than the reading, say 10A. Now turn on the electric hob; the value will increase to about 13A (8.7A + 4.3A) and after a few seconds the limiter will activate and reduce the reading load so that the reading is lower than 10A. Now turn the hob off and after several seconds the heating will come back on.
Q: I would like to fit a Lithium battery
Most Sargent systems have a Battery Charger like a PX300 or PF200 connected to the system. If your vehicle has another charger fitted, please consult the manufacturer's manual to check its compatibility with Lithium batteries. The PX300 charging profile is suitable for many Lithium batteries designed for the leisure industry that are fitted with an internal Battery Management System (BMS). You can find a downloadable attachment detailing the charging profile and voltages on the PX300 product page, and you will need to ask the battery manufacturer of your choice if the PX300 charger would be suitable for their battery. Sargent systems fitted with a PX300 are: EC328, EC400 Series, EC500, EC600, EC700, EC800, and EC400+. If your system is NOT fitted with a PX300 then your charger will have a fixed voltage of 13.8V and this is normally considered to be unsuitable to fully charge a Lithium battery. You will also need to consider if you need to install a DC-DC charger when changing your battery to Lithium to limit the charging current.
Q: I would like to fit a different AGM battery
Whilst we do not recommend any specific make or model of battery, the PX300 charger used in systems including the EC400/EC400+, EC500, EC600, EC700, EC800, and EC328 is compatible with the majority of good quality AGM batteries available in the UK. The charge profile of the PX300 is shown in the instruction manual attached below. If you are in any doubt as to the fitment of a battery you should confirm with the battery distributor or manufacturer that the PX300 charge profile is suitable.
Q: How do I operate the EC670 Keypad to arm and disarm the system?
To arm the system, key in your 4 digit code and press the ON key; the keypad will issue a single beep. To disarm the system, key in your 4 digit code and press the OFF key; the keypad will issue two beeps.
Q: How do I change the keypad code on the EC670?
From a disarmed state: Press and hold the ON key for 5 seconds until you hear a long beep, then immediately stop pressing the ON key to enter programming mode. Enter your old code and press the OFF key (a beep will be issued). Enter your new code and press the OFF key again (a beep will be issued). Confirm the new code by entering it a second time and press the OFF key again; a beep will be issued and the system will exit the programming menu. Note that if no keys are pressed within 10 seconds, the system will exit programming mode.
Q: What do the different beep codes mean on the EC670 Keypad?
1 beep means arm. 2 beeps mean disarm. 3 beeps mean an incorrect code has been entered. 4 beeps indicate an error. 5 beeps indicate a time out. 1 long beep means listen mode. Each individual key press will also beep to inform you the key has been pressed.
Q: How do I recover a lost code on the EC670 Keypad?
Press and hold the OFF key for 5 seconds until you hear a long beep, then immediately stop pressing the OFF key to enter reset mode. Following the long beep, a series of short sounds will be issued in the form of 4 codes (consisting of 1 to 4 beeps); note down the number of beeps. Call Sargent Technical support on 01482 678981, ensuring you have your caravan details to hand as a security check will be undertaken to verify you are the registered owner. Following the issue of the reset code from Sargent Technical, re-enter the reset mode (press and hold OFF for 5 seconds until the long beep), wait for the beep code to end, then enter the code given by Sargent Technical and press the ON key. A confirmation beep will sound, and the code will now be reset to 1234. It is recommended to change this immediately to a code of your choice.
Q: Is my device compatible with the Swift Command app?
Your device must support Bluetooth 4 (or Bluetooth Low Energy BLE) standard. If you are unsure, you can use apps available to check Bluetooth connectivity and compatibility, such as LightBlue® — Bluetooth Low Energy (available on Google Play for Android and the App Store for iOS). Using the LightBlue Bluetooth App, if the device is compatible it should display a Bluetooth source called SWIFT_BLE. If SWIFT_BLE is not found then the device being used is most likely not compatible.
Q: What component checks should be conducted if my device is compatible with Bluetooth?
1. Ensure the Leisure Battery has been fitted and (if required) the mains powered charger is turned ON. 2. At the EC600 or EC800 Power Supply Unit, check that the system is powered up (Shutdown button is in the IN position). 3. At the EC600 or EC800 Control Panel, turn the power on. 4. On the EC600 Control Panel, scroll to the EC620 screen and press the 'select' button (right arrow) to page through the system information, checking that it matches or exceeds: 90C90 (caravan) or 91C91 (motorhome), SW13, and a valid Mxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx IMEI number. 5. On the EC800 Control Panel, from the Home Screen, press the settings cog in the bottom right corner to access settings, checking that EC630 No is 34 (or higher) and the IMEI No is a valid Mxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx number.
Q: Why does the app disconnect after the first pairing or when my device goes to sleep?
This is normal behaviour. It is possible that the App may disconnect after the first pairing, and you can simply reconnect and continue using the App. If your device goes to sleep, the screen auto-locks, you change to another app, or another paired device connects to the system, the Bluetooth connection will be disconnected, and you will need to reconnect when you wish to use the Swift Command App again. On iOS you can change the auto-lock time (settings/general/auto-lock) or on Android you can change the sleep time (Settings/display/screen timeout, sleep or similar). Additionally, if you use the remote features part of the App whilst connected via Bluetooth in your caravan or motorhome, the Bluetooth connection will be disconnected and disabled for 5 minutes to avoid any conflicting signals.
Q: How do I pair an Android device to the system?
You have 1 minute to complete the pairing process. In Bluetooth pairing, SWIFT_BLE should be visible as an available device. Click on it to pair the device. Pairing should now complete, and SWIFT_BLE should be listed in your paired devices. Now exit settings and open the Swift Command App. Click the Bluetooth icon and then the Search for Control Panel button to list the available systems. Click on the listed item to connect your device to the EC600 or EC800 system. Press the back button to return to the home screen to use the App.
Q: How do I pair an Apple iOS device to the system?
You have 1 minute to complete the pairing process. In the Swift Command App, click the Bluetooth icon and then the Search for Control Panel button to list the available systems. Click on the listed item to pair your device to the EC600 or EC800 system. Select Pair when prompted by the popup box. Pairing should now complete. With the pairing and connection now complete, press the back button to return to the home screen to use the App.
Q: Why do I need an account?
You need a Swift Command account to take advantage of the Swift Command features like remote alerts, remote levels and remote control. You also need an account if you wish to add a tracking subscription.
Q: What information is kept and who is it shared with?
Data relating to your account, including Name, Address, Email Address, Phone Number and Vehicle Serial Number will be stored on a Microsoft secure server and will be made available to Sargent Electrical Services Limited, The Swift Group Limited and registered Swift Group dealers and engineers. System data from your vehicle, including Battery Voltage Levels, Water Levels, Temperature and Humidity along with GPS location data will be stored on a Microsoft secure server and will be made available to Sargent Electrical Services Limited, The Swift Group Limited and registered Swift Group dealers and engineers for diagnostic and analysis purposes and to provide help and assistance. None of the covered data will be shared with any third parties, with the exception of data requests from legal bodies, government agencies or the police.
Q: Is my vehicle compatible?
All Swift Command caravans and motorhomes that have the EC600 Power System fitted with the EC620 Control Panel or the EC800 Power System fitted with the EC800 Control Panel are compatible. Note that some caravans built in 2016 have remote features but do not include a tracking option.
Q: How do I add tracking?
You can subscribe from within the New Swift Command Website. If you don't already have a Swift Command account, please register for one at www.swiftcommand.co.uk. From the Homepage, click the Vehicles Section to display the current vehicles connected to your account. Click on the vehicle you wish to purchase tracking for to access that vehicle's details. From there scroll down to select the type of subscription that suits your needs and the number of years you want the subscription to cover. If the Vehicles Section does not show any vehicles then you need to get in contact with your dealership as only Swift Group registered dealerships are approved to link a vehicle to a users account. If you are selling your vehicle privately, email support@swiftcommand.co.uk to transfer the vehicle to the new owner's account; if selling through a Swift dealership, they will undertake the vehicle transfer.
Q: How much does tracking cost?
Each vehicle comes with a 3-year data subscription providing communication and remote control services. You can add an optional tracking subscription at any time for 1, 2 or 3 years. The cost of tracking when using existing data is £100 for 1 year, £200 for 2 years or £300 for 3 years, provided the existing data subscription covers the whole tracking period. The cost of combined tracking and data is £135 for 1 year, £250 for 2 years or £365 for 3 years. From year 4 onwards without tracking, a data only subscription costs £45, £70 or £90 for 1, 2 or 3 years respectively. After purchasing a tracking subscription you have 14 days to change your mind and request a refund; following this period no refunds are provided.
Q: How does the tracking work?
If the vehicle is moved whilst the tracker is armed, geo-fence monitoring triggers a theft event, and the monitoring station will contact you to confirm the theft or false alarm by verifying your identity. In a caravan, the system is armed when you arm the Stinger 310 / 350 Alarm System, or via the tracking keypad if no alarm is fitted, and is disarmed when the alarm is disarmed. In a motorhome, the tracker is armed when you turn the ignition off. Swift Command Tracking is a proactive system approved to Thatcham category S7.
Q: What is Thatcham Approval?
Thatcham Research are a UK Product Assessment and Certification organisation that test and approve safety and security products for the insurance industry. Swift Command Tracker is approved under Thatcham Quality Assured Category 7.
Q: How do I know if my subscription is active?
When your tracking subscription has been activated you will receive a certificate via email detailing your vehicle and the cover period. You can reprint this certificate at any time from your Swift Command Account by viewing the vehicle's details and clicking on the Document Heading. The subscription status is also shown on your vehicle under the Vehicles Section on Swift Command.
Q: Can I add extra solar panels to my system?
The limiting factor on how much solar you can connect to a Sargent PSU (Power Supply Unit) is dependant on the fuse that is protecting the solar circuit, which differs depending on your system. Maximum recommended solar wattage connected via the PSU for each series is as follows: EC325 – 120w, EC328 – 120w, EC400 – 80w, EC500 – 120w, EC600 – 120w, EC700 – 150w, EC800 – 150w, and EC400+ - 150w. You can add more solar if you connect the extra panels directly onto the leisure battery via a regulator and an appropriately sized fuse to protect the circuit. The downside to connecting directly onto the leisure battery with your extra solar and not connecting it through the PSU is that you will not get a solar reading on the control panel for the additional solar input. Other systems in our range do not have a solar input on the PSUs, so these would all need to be connected directly onto the leisure battery via a regulator and an appropriately sized fuse to protect the circuit. There is no limit to the amount of solar wattage you can install if you are connecting the solar directly onto the leisure battery.
